New Vallejo Metal Colors

I have been on a quest for years to find metal paints that shoot really well in the airbrush.  Silvers from all brands usually do, but the problems of clogging have always been part of running the coppers and golds.  Well, along comes these beauties.  They are designed to compete against enamel colors for military modelers but they are perfect for our purposes.

So, I tried some new stuff here.  AK-Interactive's grime and rust paint.  I like the weathering effects but it is going to take a little more trial and error.  Also, chain-fists are messy things, so the Blood for the Blood God was put on pretty thick.  Metal chips were done with the sponge dabbing method.  Blow spattering was done by flicking the bristles of a hard tooth brush, looks more random and you get smaller drips that way.

So like all of you fellow Heresy fans I am beyond excited about the leaks.  I wanted to take a minute to note a few things I am not sure everyone has thought of yet; that will improve HH army build astronomically.  Open the story to see.

Forge World Clears are in, and here are my thoughts and Test Minis.

I have actually been holding off on my Word Bearers and Night Lords as I just could not get the scheme I wanted.  I had tried the Minitaire paints but they were thin and the reds just weren't blood red and The Blue had no depth.  The FW clear Airbrush paints are exceptional.  Above are my test minis, primed black, based Iron Hands Steel, washed with Nuln Oil and then painted with 2 coats of the FW paints.  The Emperors Children model wasn't washed first, was just checking color.  First the Word Bearer is done in Angron Red, I found it a tad orange so it got a quick light spray of Minitaire Magenta, in the end the EXACT color I was looking for.  The Night lord got 2 coats of Calth Blue and then I hit the edges with Eidelon purple to produce some transition and depth.  The Emperors Children Model is just two coats of that same Eidelon Purple.  (FYI the purple model in the back was done with Minitaire purple clear, it's way to blue a cast for EC in my opinion.)

New Forge World Paints arrived, Review Soon

So I have noticed few people have posted any reviews on these bad boys except for the "NOT in a dropper Bottle" rants that are currently in full swing both on these and the new GW AB paints.  I do a good bit of airbrushing, and have used Miniaire, GW, and Vallejo all 4 kinds (MC, MA, GC and GA) in my brush over the years.  One thing that has always been hard to find is good metals that have nice colors and don't clog the brush.  The new Game Air silver based metals are pretty good for application but have a funny blue/cool cast to them.  The Yellow-Red Metals are inconsistent with application, often clogging even when thinned.  Minitaire colored paints are pretty good, thickness can be inconsistant but their metals are truly horrid. So I decided to give a couple of the metals and colors front eh FW line a try.  I have Word Bearers and Night Lords in production and got their primary color also.  I will post a review as soon as I get a chance to use them.  More to come.

Finally finished my 18 Thallax, these are the heart of my Mechanicum force I have been working on for sometime now. 

Samus Part 2, Almost done.

Just have to construct and appropriate base now.  The model was fun as hell to paint.  In the end it needed a good wash of Crimson GW wash to bring it together and add some depth.  I may put a few more highlights on him.

I have been working on this one for a year and finally got confident enough to start the heavy weathering.  I have been experimenting on smaller "cheaper" models.  This baby is a center piece in my army, love this model.

I have been knee deep in finals, but I have found a way to magnetize the Onager in about 30 minute to give you 3 of the 4 variants, I could have done all 4 but I didn't need to.  It's a great model.

Fell Blade Tank nearing completion

Just pin washed and more weathering to be done along with a little painting on the quad sponsons.  I used the GW decal technique this time and I must say it's the best results I have ever had.

Apply a coat in of GW ArdCoat in the area you want to put the decal, let it dry, apply the decal set it dry, put another coat of ArdCoat over the decal, let it dry.  Once done with all the decals apply a finish of dull-coat or other clear acrylic.  Do this before weathering.  It will ensure there are no decal "edges" that will pick up your weathering effects.
